Music to Our Ears—Life-Saving Mental Health Services for the Music Industry
Tuesday, June 7, 2016
Musicians deal with intensified stress—exposure to public evaluation, extended time away from family, nonstable income, and constant pressure to creative excellence. When a young Austin musician lost his battle with depression in 1995, his grieving father and friends galvanized Austin’s close-knit music community to create a unique organization offering mental health services to local musicians. The SIMS Foundation continues to provide affordable lifesaving services to musicians and their families when they need them most. Special guest Jennifer Vocelka, assistant clinical director of SIMS, shares how this organization works and how it is supported by a broad cross-section of the community in the "Live Music Capital of the World."
