Music Medicine for Recovery
Tuesday, July 24, 2012
Music is naturally healing, living in us as the everyday rhythms of heartbeat and breath and the tones in our voice. Music-making, enjoyed playfully without the pressure to perform or entertain, is a profound way to facilitate well-being and connect with the joy of life. And that‘s what recovery is all about. Guest Christine Stevens, MSW, MA, MT-BC, author of Music Medicine: The Science and Spirit of Healing Yourself With Sound, founder of UpBeat Drum Circles, and music therapist, is committed to drumming and music-making as a way of achieving change in individuals, teams and communities. Her programs are aimed at creating a musically accessible culture, where musical expression is seen as a tool for personal transformation and development. Christine has facilitated drumming circles across the United States and the world, most notably bringing this healing modality to people who have been traumatized by wars and weather disasters.
