Following Paths to Healing
Tuesday, December 10, 2013
Recovery doesn’t mean the damage never happened—it means it no longer rules our lives. Indigenous communities across the continent and world are creating powerful paths to healing as they expand the understanding of addiction and recovery to include acknowledging wounds from the intergenerational trauma of oppression and genocide. Key to recovery is remembering the wisdom within indigenous teachings and traditions—and, that spirituality is woven into their every aspect. Special guest Anna Hansen, M.A., is a psychotherapist and owner of Future Focus Counseling and Consulting, lead facilitator, former executive director of the National Association for Native American Children of Alcoholics, and member of the Sechelt Nation. She shares how addressing trauma as a collective culture and as individuals within a culture of healing is key to deep recovery. Learn more at www.historicaltrauma.com.
